\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nsights to see\n\n Almaden lies in the middle of
a granite belt with graceful boulderous granite hills scatted about. Almad
en was established as a railway workers town in 1907. Now nicknamed ‘Cow T
own’ and known for the oasis like beer garden and home made pies at the Ra
ilway Hotel. From here there are sections of well-formed unsealed road.\n(
110km) The turn-off the Mt Garnet/ Mt Surprise is unsealed and often close
d during the wet season. A large green\ntree frog can be seen on the right
of the road.\n(115km/L) The first of the marble quarries is a great examp
le of the industry. There are about forty of these pits\, all producing di
fferent colours and crystal size. Blocks surround the pits to prevent catt
le wandering in for a drink and getting stranded in the mud.\n(123km) A ca
ttle grid is the property boundary of Chillagoe Station. In front\, red vo
lcanic skarn signals the beginning of the heat zones that converted the Ch
illagoe limestone bluffs to marble\, simultaneously depositing rich surfac
e loads of copper and lead. The marble bluffs that follow are dark grey fr
om algae and support unique vegetation protected from bushfires for many t
housands of years.\n(140km) A cattle grid acts as a town fence to keep cat
tle out and like opening a book\, Chillagoe appears with a chimney of the
now abandoned smelter on the horizon. The Chillagoe area is one of richest
  mineral deposits in the world.

) The Rodeo ground is the home to the famous Mareeba Rodeo and Christmas i

DESCRIPTION:Follow Andrew on his trek up Kilimanjaro.\nMy name is Andrew Ke
ogh and I’m a 40-year-old high school teacher from Glenala SHS in Brisbane
with a passion for adventure.\nFor as long as I can remember\, I have dre
amed of conquering Mount Kilimanjaro – the highest summit in Africa and th
e tallest freestanding mountain in the world.\nAfter years of waiting\, I
am in the fortunate position of being able to choose take on this challeng
e.\nUnfortunately\, there are many people in our society whose choices in
life are far more limited.\nThe reality of this hit home recently when I w
as introduced to the Brisbane arm of not-for-profit outreach service Rosie
s.\nBy providing something as simple as a cup of coffee\, a biscuit or jus
t a friendly smile and a chat\, Rosies reaches out to those who are abando
ned\, marginalised or socially isolated\, offering them the experience of
community and belonging.\nWhile the outreach is made possible by a band of
dedicated volunteers\, Rosies depends on the generous donations of others
to help cover the cost of the service.\nTo that end\, I have decided to c
ouple Rosies’ quest with my own and use it to help raise some much-needed
funds for this amazing organisation.\nIt’s nearly 6000m from the base to t
he peak of Mount Kilimanjaro\, so my goal is to raise $1 for every metre t
hat I will climb. Hopefully smashing this target will be far easier than a
ctually taking on the mountain!\nMy trip to Tanzania will be entirely self
-funded\, with 100 per cent of the donations going to help Rosies continue
their valuable work. As little as $5-10 is all it takes to make a conside
rable difference to those that really need it.
