Our People: Beenleigh Branch Coordinator Fay Blackshaw
Across Queensland, Rosies operates in 14 different places. These places called “branches” are all run by volunteers; most having both a Branch Coordinator and a Deputy Branch Coordinator.
The coordinator supports the branch and volunteers, by creating a warm, safe place for all. Day to day, you’ll find them looking after all things related to outreach and ensuring there is a team to take the van out and that there is ample coffee, tea, biscuits etc to share with our friends on the street.
Fay is our Beenleigh Branch Coordinator and has been with Rosies since 2017, stepping up to lead the branch in 2018.
Fay has many found memories of her years with Rosies but she cherishes the connections she makes with patrons everday. “For me the best bits (about Rosies) are seeing our Patrons happy faces when we give out donated items and extras for their comfort – bedding, clothes, yummy food, hot drinks and seeing their genuine pleasure when we take time to really listen to them, something that many say rarely happens. This clearly fosters their self-worth and dignity. We see them walk taller and more confidently as they leave us.
My voluntary work as Rosies Friends on the Street Branch Coordinator goes a long way to fulfilling my desire to utilise my talents for God’s work in our community. Leading and managing my Branch, recruiting, training, and encouraging our volunteers so we can best support our Patrons gives me huge pleasure.”
We are so grateful for Fay and for all of our volunteers Queensland wide.
