HeartWorks
an initiative of Rosies – Friends on the Street
Since 1987, Rosies – Friends on the Street has provided comfort, connection and friendship to those experiencing homelessness, disadvantage and loneliness.
As a community honoring the Oblate spirit of Daring, we have always sought new ways to continue to reach out to those in need with an open heart.
Whether that be through a warm cuppa, a hearty meal, or just a friendly chat, our 1600 volunteers provide a safe place for vulnerable people to belong.
In the spirit of belonging and in recognition of Homelessness Week and Loneliness Awareness Week we are pleased to share with you a pilot extension of our outreach model, HeartWorks.
HeartWorks, developed in collaboration with Jesuit Social Services (VIC), is an employment pathway program that looks to provide sustained employment opportunities for a small number of people in genuine need.
The name HeartWorks builds upon the message of the Rosies prayer where the heart is the doorway to meaningful connection, providing the best opportunity for a person to experience positive and purposeful outcome and the dignity of work.
We have created a short video detailing the way the program works which you can view here.
While this program will not impact the outreach experience, we were keen for our Rosies family to know that HeartWorks will be an emerging new initiative that joins the wide range of Rosies outreaches that happen across Queensland every day of the year.
We are delighted to share this extension of the Rosies mission and model and look forward to sharing more with you later in the year.
