New BBQ Trailer a Sign of Faith in Action for Rosies Toowoomba
Rosies – Friends on the Street Toowoomba has unveiled a new BBQ trailer, made possible by the extraordinary generosity of the local community. Replacing an ageing and well-loved unit, the custom-built trailer will be used four times a week across Rosies’ seven weekly outreaches, and is also supporting school and community events.
More than a piece of equipment, the trailer is a tangible expression of care and compassion. It allows Rosies to continue its mission of offering friendship, connection, and practical support to those experiencing homelessness, hardship or social isolation.
“This trailer is a game-changer for our team,” shared Rosies Toowoomba Branch Co-Coordinator, Joe Roberson. “It’s safer, more efficient and better equipped, enabling our volunteers to serve our community with dignity and love — and to create a welcoming space for all who come.”
The trailer was funded through the “Grill 4 Good” campaign, a 3-week community funding activity earlier this year, supported by generous corporate donors including Asia Pacific Aerospace, Aurizon, TCW, and Tierney Signs. Their contributions reflect a shared commitment to walking alongside the most vulnerable in our local community.
Designed with safety and functionality in mind, the trailer includes upgraded cooking facilities, improved storage, and better lighting — all helping to enhance the experience for both volunteers and Rosies guests.
The trailer’s first public appearance was at Mary MacKillop Catholic College in Highfields, where Rosies volunteers showcased the trailer to the Year 5 classes during the school’s celebration of the Feast Day of Saint Mary MacKillop. The moment was especially meaningful, as the Year 5 classes had initiated a highly successful raffle fundraiser in helping to fund the new trailer.
“It was a joy to show the students and staff the tangible outcome of their and the community’s fundraising efforts,” said Rosies Toowoomba volunteer, Russell Mauch. “It was a powerful reminder that when our community of schools, parishes and supporters come together in faith and service, we can truly make a difference in local lives.”
A blessing of the trailer will take place at Rosies’ Annual Acknowledgement Dinner in October — a special moment to honour the many hands and hearts who helped bring this vision to life.
