R U OK? Day
Thursday 8th September 2022
At Rosies, our mission is to provide a safe space where all members of the community can come together and feel a part of something bigger than them.
A lot of our friends, go a whole week without hearing another person say their name.
This is what makes Rosies so special, is that we learn our patrons’ names, we love seeing them at every outreach and we ask a very important question – “R U OK?”. Our friends absolutely look forward to seeing us and that regular support of the safe space at Rosies can go a long way in helping people to be OK.
September 8th is National R U OK day which is exactly what it sounds like, however it has a broader goal around starting conversations with the goal of suicide prevention.
R U OK? is a harm prevention charity that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times in their lives. Their work focuses on building the motivation, confidence and skills of the help-giver – the person who can have a meaningful conversation with someone who is struggling with life.

In 2021, the R U OK? team donated a number of teabag & bikkie packets to help us ask R U OK? on outreach. We were also incredibly lucky to have schools from around Brisbane who wanted to support Rosies for R U OK day by creating some handmade notes and letters for our friends. Each note or letter was a lovely message that a young person wanted to share with someone doing it tough, to remind them that others are thinking of them and cared about their wellbeing.
This year, we are looking for people who would like to do something similar!
Would you like to write a letter or create a drawing that we could share with someone doing it tough?
If you are a student, please chat to your teacher or guardian. Otherwise, please feel free to contact our Engagement Coordinator Sarah Corbett at corbetts@rosies.org.au to see how you can get involved!
