Broncos Help Rosies Leave no Queenslander Behind

Broncos Thomas Flegler and Brendan Frei have helped fuel the power of connection alongside much-loved Brisbane-based charity Rosies Friends on the Street.

With outreach stretching from Cairns to the Gold Coast, Rosies provides friendship and acceptance to those affected by homelessness and doing it tough, with a warm smile and a hot drink via their recognisable community vans.

Since its inception in 1987, the organisation has been working tirelessly to address the issue of homelessness, particularly in Brisbane.

Part of the 2023 Brisbane Broncos Charity Partner Program, Rosies is the dedicated charity for Friday night’s clash against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

A group of their incredible volunteers will take their mission from the street to Suncorp Stadium, to sell tickets in the 50-50 Charity Raffle, with much needed funds to go back into their outreach program across Brisbane.

Flegler stressed the importance of the players taking time out to volunteer near the Brisbane CBD.

“It is a fantastic cause and it’s a privilege to be able to come down here and help out where we can,” Flegler said.

“Homelessness can affect anyone these days, and if we can make a difference just by having a chat with even just one person while we make them a coffee, we’ve played a pretty important role.

“Mental health and wellbeing us such a big thing for all of us, it doesn’t discriminate.”

Rosies’ CEO Jayne Shallcross says 1 in 4 Australians are currently experiencing an episode of loneliness and 1 in 10 Australians aged 15 and over report lacking social support.

“With the continued support of the Broncos and players alike, Rosies can continue to make a real difference in the lives of those in need,” Shallcross said.

“Some of our patrons even equate connection and conversation to be as important as safe accommodation and food.

“The Broncos’ support is incredibly important to us and our patrons, and we’re looking forward to raising as much funds as we can for our friends on the street on Friday night.

Staff from Broncos Charity Program Partner will join forces with volunteers at the game, as their valued support continues.
