Student volunteer responds to need on the street in Cairns

By Eunice Winship, Cairns Branch Coordinator

Rosies operates a Youth Engagement Program (YEP), offering opportunities to year 11s and 12s from schools and young people of equivalent age from other youth organisations. Keelin is just one of our amazing student volunteers who enjoyed joining the outreach program with her school St Monica’s College in 2022. She graduated last year and is enrolled to study Law & Finance at Queensland University of Technology (QUT).

When Keelin turned 18, she promptly signed up as a Rosies volunteer and helped out multiple times over the Christmas/New Year period and into January during our busiest time whilst employed at Subway. She brought 3 boxes of Subway Cookies to serve to our patrons on our Christmas night outreach and her family helped cook 65 meals for our patrons, using sausages from a Subway promotion day.

Keelin is the first YEP volunteer Peter and I have had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know personally, and as I am sure you can tell is a wonderful Rosies fit!

Rosies Cairns wishes you all the best in your studies Keelin, and we look forward to you joining us at Rosies again soon!
